Regional Representatives: Bios

 

West

Deborah V. Napoleon, RN-MSW is the AH Alumni Regional Representative of the Western Region. She graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Masters Degree in Social Work as one of the Graduate Deans Medalist and received AH certification in 2005.  She is currently working with the Parents Institute for Quality Education, (PIQE) in Fresno, CA. PIQE is a non profit agency that works within the school system.  It offers parenting education classed for parents of children in elementary through high school equipping them with the tools and information they will need to prepare their child to enter into a 4 year institution.  The program also provides education and enrichment activities for parents of children from elementary to high school, educating them on the importance of having a plan to send their children to college. The program provides 9 week training classed at the different schools here in Fresno for the parents that will give them the tools and information they need to make this dream come through.  Deborah served as a past officer in AH program while in school and maintains a connection with the campus given support for the current students where needed.  She is very active in the community with various non profit agencies providing volunteer support when needed.

Jennifer Patten Benson  is the Director of Development for Heritage Services.  As a non-profit organization, Heritage Services translates the generosity of patrons into permanent assets for the community making Omaha a better place to live.  Currently, Jennifer is assisting in the fundraising efforts for the new College World Series baseball stadium.  She is a 2004 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and American Humanics certification in nonprofit management.  She is pursuing her Masters in Public Administration.  Jennifer was one of the founding members of the UNO American Humanics Student Association and served as its president and chair for fundraising and development.  Jennifer is a member of the Junior League of Omaha, former president of the Nebraska Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA Nebraska) and serves on UNO’s American Humanics Community Council, an advisory board of nonprofit and university professionals in support of the program.

 

Midwest

Bryon Haverstick was honorably discharged in 2001 from the United State Army. He graduated from Lindenwood University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Service Agency Management in 2005. Bryon served as the Vice President of the American Humanics Student Association. Through college, Bryon worked as the Participatory Recreation and Athletic Coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club in St. Charles County. Bryon is currently serving as Senior District Executive, for the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Bryon co-founded the St. Louis Area American Humanics Alumni Association, is serving as the Co-Regional Representative for the American Humanics Alumni Association (Midwest Region), volunteer basketball coach and public address announcer for the Boys & Girls Club in St. Charles and for the Ladue High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team. Bryon was featured in the Teaching and Learning Network’s “Voices of Vision” Television Documentary on his accomplishments and involvement in American Humanics, the Boys & Girls Club, and The Boy Scouts of America.

Charlotte Walker graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2007 with a BSPA in Nonprofit Management with a Swahili Minor. She is currently the Resource Development Coordinator at Hoosier Hills Food Bank in Bloomington, IN, working on grants, annual fundraising, newsletters, donor correspondence, and special events. She is also secretary of the Bloomington Animal Care & Control which deals with intake and adoptions. She joined American Humanics as a junior and served as president of the student association during her senior year.  She also served on the IUPUI Community Council while in Indianapolis and now serves on the Bloomington Community Council.  She has coordinated the past two AH Indiana Alumni reunions and currently workings in the Midwest Region.

 

Northeast

John Gardner graduated from Salem College in 1974 with a degree in Youth agency Administration. His time at Salem pre-dates AH certification, but he has stayed actively involved in American Humanics for over 30 years. He currently works as Associate Regional Director of Planned Giving at Boy Scouts of America. That function includes prospect development, volunteer committee recruiting, prospect cultivation and solicitation as well as assisting local councils in recruiting. He has also worked as Associate Regional Director of Endowment Development and develops and implements planned giving committees.

Angela  Haney Clark - While at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, Angela Haney Clark served as President at her American Humanics chapter and recieved an AH Dwight J. Thompson Scholarship.  She graduated with a Masters in Public Administration, with a concentration in Nonprofit Management in 2002.  She has worked for United Nations Children's Fund and Wesley Housing Development Corporation, a pregnancy resource center. Angela is currently the Executive Director of the National Foundation for Acquiring Employable Skills which trains people with mental disabilities to gain skills in order to gain employment in the community after training.  She has experience in grant writing, fundraising, and special events.  She is also working on a website to increase awareness and fight child hunger.

Southwest

Ariana A. Campos graduated in 2006 from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and competed the American Humanics certification program at the University of Houston in 2008.  Ariana is a Program Manager for SER - Jobs for Progress of the Texas Gulf Coast and oversees the Green Job Training Program.  The Green Job Training Program will provide the following training classes: Thermal and Solar Panel Installation, Weatherization, and HVAC. Ariana currently volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston, Tejano Center for Community Concerns, and the NHPO Leadership Institute.

Tyleen Caffrey graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in May 2008 with her Master's of Social Work and Certification in NonProfit Management. Tyleen was selected as an AH Next Gen Leader. Tyleen also holds a Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Music from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS.  Tyleen currently serves as the Family Advocacy Outreach Manager for Cannon Air Force Base.  As the Outreach Manager for the Family Advocacy Program, she focuses on the prevention of child and spouse maltreatment by providing programs to promote health and safety to both the military and civilian communities.  Tyleen is a radio personality and co-hosts a morning show on 99.9 KTQM, and has a mobile DJ business called Party2Go. In addition to being selected as the Southwest Regional Representative, she serves on the Board of Directors for United Way of Eastern New Mexico, Juvenile Justice Task Force and Court Appointed Special Advocates. Tyleen is a Girl Scout Troop Leader, member of the VFW Post 3280 Ladies Auxillary.  She is the chair of the Curry County Wellness Council, and a member of the Foster Care Alumni Association.  Tyleen also founded Monarch Formals, a program providing formal wear to those in need.
