Erika Albert

Current Position: Development Director, Monroe County YMCA
Since Dec. 2007, Erika has been the Development Director for the Monroe County YMCA. Before working for the YMCA, she was the Development Director for a hospital foundation in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
As an undergraduate, she was the vice president of AHSA, and while working on a master’s degree in Public Administration she served as the graduate assistant for the IU Bloomington AH program. Upon graduating, an anonymous donor created a named a Fund at the Indiana University Foundation to honor her support of professional development opportunities for American Humanics students.
Her involvement with American Humanics continued after graduation. She serves on the American Humanics Community Council for her local chapter. Through participation on this council, she guest lectures in nonprofit classes, helps secure resources for students, mentors American Humanics students, supervises internships and involves alumni. Most recently, she served on the AHMI Host City Committee in Indianapolis. She took a leadership role in organizing and planning the career EXPO, placement services and career coaching to ensure that students had meaningful interactions with local, regional and national nonprofit organizations at AHMI.
As AHNAA President, Erika is focusing on furthering the mission of the Alumni Association by increasing resources for alumni, encouraging more local and regional participation and working to strengthen relationships among AH alumni.

Megan Hoot
AH Campus: University of Florida ‘05
Current Position: Program Manager, Strategy and Executive Office, Independent Sector
Megan Hoot graduated from the University of Florida in 2005 with a degree in Family, Youth and Community Sciences and a minor in Organizational Leadership in Nonprofit Management. While at UF, she founded her American Humanics chapter, presided as President of the club for 2 years (2002-4), and was instrumental in the creation of the minor. She then received her Masters in Public Affairs with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University. Megan currently works as a Program Manager in Executive Office and Strategy at Independent Sector in Washington DC, a coalition of corporations, foundations, and private voluntary organizations that works to strengthen America's nonprofit sector. At Independent Sector, Megan works on diversity initiatives, strategic planning, board development and research on emerging issues in the sector. She also facilitates a program at the IS Annual Conference called NGen: Moving Nonprofit Leaders from Next to Now for over 150 emerging leaders across the country. She is a member of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and sits on the Board of the Institute of Philanthropy and Voluntary Service.

Michelle VanHuss
AH Campus: Wright State University ‘08
Current Position: Program Services Specialist with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio

Michelle completed her American Humanics Certification at Wright State University in June 2008 while completing a Master of Public Administration degree. She is currently serving as a Program Services Specialist with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. She works with volunteers and partner agencies to develop program opportunities for the girls in the organization’s service area; she is also serving as an AmeriCorps*ProCorps member. She served as the WSU AH Student Association’s Events Committee Chair, 2006-2008. She oversaw the planning of four day-long workshops and other special events. She worked with a group of other AH members on crafting a mission statement, vision, and strategic plan for a unified AH presence in the Dayton region; it included integrating the AH program, Student Association, Community Council, and Alumni Society. She has experience in presenting to and working with boards working with the AH Community Council, during her NextGen internship at March of Dimes, during year of AmeriCorps service with Children’s Hunger Alliance in Ohio, and by serving on an Advisory Group for the Girl Scouts of the USA National Board and on local committees. She has become involved with the WSU AH Alumni Society. She presented a workshop at AHMI 2009. Michelle shares that the experience has been a great opportunity for her to explore and learn about the various aspects of the non-profit sector and has ignited a true passion for service and youth programming.

Kelvin Alfaro
AH Campus: California State University, Fresno '08
Current Position: Nonprofit Professional, Fresno Regional Foundation
In 2008 and 2009, Kelvin has worked closely with the Fresno Campus to achieve fund raising goals and increased participation at AHMI. He has served in the Board of Directors of CSU, Fresno for the Student Union and for the Leader of Tomorrow Program also at Fresno State.
